My Portfolio

My photography journey started out as just a job. My first "big girl" full-time job out of college was a photographer and sales associate at a portrait studio. At first I was excited to learn new skills and, more importantly at the time, have a regular paycheck.

Little did I know that I would grow to love the art of portraiture: I would not only learn the basics of good posing, using proper lighting, and framing everything correctly while using the right camera settings, but I also learned how to deal with the shy ones (like myself at one time) who had a hard time opening up and cooperating with the spotlight on them.

I got to work with children and adults with varying abilities. Taking extra time to get through a session with an infant and her parents who were both hearing impaired: some rudimentary sign language and passing notes back and forth and they left with some beautiful family photos that I know they'll cherish forever.

Lord knows toddlers are a handful even on their best days, but sometimes we have to dig deep for that extra ounce of patience. I found it working with a little guy on the autism spectrum with an extra short attention span: after several trials and errors, we finally found that blowing bubbles kept him entertained, and we worked some magic and got some great shots.

I'll never forget when I captured the smile of a little blind girl and both her moms cried because they had never had a photo taken with her smiling before.

It's these stories that increased my love for the camera and the art of creating, capturing, and saving those sweet moments forever.

The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.
